Donovan ‘Don’ Leroy Pore, 75, of Mansfield, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born September 23, 1935, in Mansfield, he was the son of Forrest L. and Helen Hively Pore. A graduate of Lucas High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army and retired in 1995 from General Motors as a skilled tradesman. Don was a founding member of the U.A.W. #549 where he was a member of the Platinum Club, spent 15 years as the Recording Secretary and traveled to Washington to represent local #549 and the Central Ohio C.A.P. Council, was involved in the union’s Care and Share program and was one of the first official Board Members of the Auto Workers Credit Union. He was also a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM, was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, a member of the Richland County Scottish Rite Association, the Shriners of North America and White Shrine of Jerusalem where he served as past watchman of the Shephards. Don was also a member of the Democratic National Committee. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed life to the fullest ~ never meeting a stranger.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Kay Matthes Pore; two sons, Aaron Michelle Pore of Bellville and David Pore of Mansfield; grandchildren, Olivia, Erica, David T. and Luke Pore; sisters, Janet Hestermann and Carol Ed Hardin; a sister-in-law, Beverly Dennis McKinley; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Heidi. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Duane Pore.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield where Masonic Services conducted by the Shelby Masonic Lodge will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the funeral home conducted by Dr. David Aune. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the U.A.W. Local #549 Community Service.
