In loving memory of Fred M. Martinelli, May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you. Dr. Martinelli was my favorite professor in the physical education program at AU 45 yrs. ago. He was like the "Energizer bunny" anywhere he went. He was such an inspiring individual, who along with Ruth were the dynamic duo. For the last several years, I had the pleasure of sitting and conversing with them and the late Dr. Nethers at AU women' s bball games. Peace & blessings to your family

I didn't coach for Coach Martinelli, but every time I met him he treated me with respect. He was a very kind man. John Valentine was assistant coach at Ashland College and I had coached with John at Mansfield Madison and I think that's why Coach Martinelli was so kind to me.

It was an honor to play and be taught by Coach Martinelli. Coach embodied the role of being a coach, educator and leader with honesty and humility. I continue to use many of the life lessons I learned from Coach. He had a profound affect on my life both on and off the playing field. God bless you Coach.

I had the good fortune of having played on Coach Martinelli's first two teams at Ashland in 1959-60 - the latter winning the Mid Ohio Conference. Even in those early years, you knew he was something special. Not only was he a student of the game, he had a special bond with his players that went beyond the gridiron. He truly cared and made a difference! Coach Fred was a major influence in my life and I so valued his friendship. Through the years, we kept in touch - most recently a call to wish him a happy 92nd. We joked about me, at age 82, probably being the oldest former player still around and only ten years his junior. -- Coach Martinelli put Ashland University on the map and has left a lasting legacy!
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

My father Cecil Flynn, spoke often of Coach Martinelli and the respect and love he had for him! My dad played for him when he was the coach for the Bellville High School Team! So sad to hear of his passing. Prayers to his family and all those whom loved him!

Coach meant a lot to me the 2 years I was a GA in Sports Info, 1987-89. Got to see him & Ruth when I came through Ashland in 2007. Member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He will be missed by all the Eagles.

Coach Martinelli and his wife were so kind to me and my family over the years. I was able to advance my football career 1962-1965 under his tutelage. He took a chance on me and I was privileged to be a part of 4 Conference Championships playing guard, linebacker, and some middle guard. His Legacy will live on for future generations. God Bless His Life and Profound Contribution to So Many Like Myself.
