Eugene “Gene” Wendell DeBolt, 96, of Mansfield passed away at Mansfield Place early on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2018. He was born January 14, 1922, in Masontown, Pennsylvania, to the late Harry and Mary (McKenna) DeBolt Sr.
Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Technician 3rd Grade, and was discharged in 1946 as an automotive electrician and received an expert rifleman badge. He then went to work at R.P. Wright Ford Dealers in Masontown. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Betty M. Hemmann, and they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He worked at Reed Mullan Ford until moving to Mansfield in 1952. He then began working at A.B. Grafton Lincoln Mercury where he was a certified service manager. In 1955, he went to work at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company and worked in the electric shop. In 1960, he went to work for Richland Electric and retired in 1996 after 36 years of service at the Charnan Division of Lake Erie Electric.
Gene brought much joy to and lit up the eyes of children and adults alike through his volunteer electrical services at the Christmas Wonderland light display at the Richland County Fairgrounds. He loved his family dearly and times spent in their company were the best he had. Gene enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, and Indy car racing in his free time. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Mark (Rhonda) DeBolt of Mansfield; two daughters, Wendie (Hank) Conrad of North Ridgeville, OH, and Vicki DeBolt of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Bryan (Holly) DeBolt, Jacquelyn (Joel) Smith, and Justin (Ashlee) DeBolt; and eight great-grandchildren, Camden, Quinten, Griffin and Jameson DeBolt, Kellen and Hailey Smith, and Isabell and Zoiya DeBolt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Marie DeBolt on July 23, 2018; a brother, Harry “Bud” DeBolt Jr.; and a sister, Betty McCleary.
