Frances Faye Sorg, 88, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018. A lifelong resident of Richland County, she was born November 30, 1930, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Elmer Roy and Esther (Fuhrer) Gilliom.
Frances was employed for many years at Columbia Gas before retiring and becoming a full-time homemaker. She was an avid storyteller and captured the imagination and attention of all who listened. Frances was beloved by children and taught Sunday school for nearly 50 years, touching the lives of hundreds and leaving an unforgettable legacy. She was a member of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church for nearly 20 years and previously was a long time member of the Apostolic Christian Church and First Alliance Church.
She leaves behind many who cherish her memory including her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Rebecca Sorg of Wilmington, OH; four beloved grandchildren, Ariana, Esther, River and Asa Sorg, all of Wilmington; two sisters, Helen (Jim) Burford and Dorothy (Jim) Chambers, both of Ontario; a brother, John (Miriam) Gilliom of Wooster, AR; many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close; and special friends, Wendy Shook and Diana Brown.
Frances was preceded in death by her treasured husband, Ruben Sorg; parents; and three sisters, Margaret (Nick) Miu, Betty Gilliom and Mary (Don) Fulk.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Oldaker officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Right to Life or Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
