Gaylen L. “Jake” Jacobs, 72, of Mansfield, passed away at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Jake was born on April 24, 1947 in Massillon, Ohio. He was the son of Howard and Dorothy (Robinson) Jacobs.
Jake was a 1965 graduate of Ontario High School, and retired from PPG as a line operator after 47 years of employment. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Jake served during the Vietnam War. Jake had a generous heart and was always helping others any way that he could, and he never expected anything in return. He shared laughter with others, always joking around and was a big flirt. Jake enjoyed getting together with his PPG Retirees Club every two weeks for breakfast. He worked hard, always busy doing something around his yard and home as he loved for it to look nice. Jake was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and taking a leisure ride on his motorcycle.
Jake leaves behind his companion of 19 years, Denise Hagy; his sons, David and Doug Jacobs; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Henry (Melody) Jacobs and David (Rebecca) Jacobs; his nephews, James, Mike, and Charles Jacobs; his niece, Misty Jacobs; a special cousin, Matt (Gena) Moore; a daughter by choice, Deborah Cochran; special nieces, Patty and Shirley; and special second cousins, Jeremiah and Zechariah Griffith and Tabitha and Anthony Stidom. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Michael and Harold Jacobs.
Family and friends may visit from 2:00-4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors.
