Jerald “Jerry” L. Miller, 77, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at OhioHealth Mansfield. Born July 1, 1941 in Mansfield, he was the son of Benjamin and Theresa (Bikar) Miller.

Jerry met his future wife, Margaret, at the grocery store on Lexington Avenue where they both worked. He being the shy one, she approached him because she said “He was the best looking man she had ever seen”.

Jerry graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1959 and had previously attended St. Peter’s High School. He married Margaret in 1961.

Jerry worked at Dominion Electric and then Mansfield Brass and Aluminum as a lead foreman, while also having his own home business on the side to repair automobiles. Jerry opened his own auto repair and service station in 1970, Miller’s Service Center, and was a successful businessman and Master Mechanic for over 36 years. His sharp mind and quick wit along with the desire to learn and master of all his goals was apparent to all who knew him. He liked to help teach others at Madison Adult Education Center’s Automotive clinics. He also sponsored little league baseball teams and volunteered with the Amateur Radio Club during parades and freedom festivals in Mansfield (N8GJ).

To balance his superior work ethics and being an excellent provider, Jerry loved to be adventurous. He raced cars and motocross, rode snowmobiles and motorcycles, enjoyed remote control cars and boats, photography, bicycling, fishing, power boating, building and flying model airplanes, trap shooting and gun collecting. Jerry was a member of Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35 F&AM, he was the Vice Commodore of the Loudonville Wildlife Conservation Club, a former member of the Richland County Fish and Game Club and a former trustee of the Crawford County Coon Hunter’s Club.

Jerry was a loving, helpful man, who always was a good influence. He enjoyed having the family together for social and recreational events. He had a warm smile to greet everyone and touched the lives of many people.

He is survived by his children, Edward Miller, Daniel Miller, Laura (Tom) Baker and Phillip Miller; nine grandchildren, Teresa (Aaron) Carlson, Cristina (Jake) Cabell, Sarah Baker, Kurtis Baker, Aiyana Miller, Ace Miller, Cholena Miller, Drake Miller and Allidy Miller; one great grandson, Braxten Cabell; his siblings, Carol Spell of Olympia, Washington, Steven Miller of Kettering, Ohio, and Michael (Fran) Miller of Carriere, Mississippi; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Joseph) Wolfel of Westerville, Rosalie (Gary) Shotts of Columbus and Janet (Gary) Owen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Margaret in 2004.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, Ohio. Masonic Services will follow at 7:00 p.m.
