Leon Bond was born on January 9, 1922 to Lucius Bond and Lucy Shaw Bond in Brownsville, Tennessee. His journey on earth ended on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Willard Mercy Hospital.

Leon was the eldest child from an extremely close knit family that included ten siblings. While growing up in Tennessee, he graduated from Haywood High School and attended Lane College in Jackson. Afterwards, he served our Country during World War II, stationed abroad in both France and England. Shortly after being discharged from the military in 1945, Leon moved to Mansfield. Within a few years, his entire immediate family accompanied him in Ohio. He had a life-long appreciation for farming and horses and spent much of his recreational time working with both. After 30 years of dedicated service, Leon retired from General Motors, Mansfield Plant in 1991.

Leon was a devoted husband, a loving father and an attentive grandfather. He was also a dutiful Christian, faithfully serving the Lord for several years as a Minister at the local Southside and Eastside Church of Christ locations. Those who knew Leon could attest of his love for the Church and his keen knowledge of the scripture. Leon will personally be remembered by family and friends for his charming disposition and willingness to always help those in need.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Deloris Cantrell Bond; four daughters, Katherine Azmoun, Linda Bond, Lucille Bennett, and Elloree Deane; and several grandchildren. Additional survivors include his brothers and sisters, Emmett Bond, Elizabeth (Don) Moorman, Curtis Bond, Thomas Bond, James Bond, Glen (Pattie) Bond, and Lillian (Alfred) Smith. Leon was preceded in death by his son, Leon John Doherty in 2005; and two siblings in 2013, Evelyn Withers and Calvin Bond.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond Street. Friends will also be greeted on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 am. at the funeral home. The funeral service will commence at 10:30 am. Leon’s brother, James Bond will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.
