Phyllis Bonham, 82, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home. She was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on December 24, 1934, to the late Emmett and Marie (Applegate) Bonham.

She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1952 and the Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Phyllis then joined the U.S. Air Force and was commissioned as a First Lieutenant. She spent many years in Kansas City, Missouri, and was affiliated with Third Baptist Church while living there. She remained a proud veteran of the U.S. military and was a strong supporter of everyone who sacrificed for this country.

Upon returning to Ohio, she worked at Riverside Methodist Hospital and at Mansfield General Hospital as an oncology nurse. Her caring and supportive demeanor were a perfect fit for her profession and she was an excellent nurse. Phyllis always put others before herself and accepted nothing but perfection of herself when caring for her patients.

Phyllis is survived by a sister-in-law, Jeanne Bonham; a nephew, Christopher Bonham; dear friends, Jerry, Brenda and Max Roberts; and many other friends and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Lou Bonham; brother, Roger Bonham; and sister, Janet Bonham.

Honoring Phyllis’s wishes, there will be no services or visitation. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family. Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice, 335 Glessner Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44903.
