Richard E. Muegge, 89, of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Kingston of Marion. Richard was born on April 26, 1929 in Akron, Ohio and raised in Richfield, Ohio. He was the son of Alfred and Harriette Muegge.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a crew chief in a B-25 at Tyndall Air Force Base. He loved aircraft and flying. Richard was a graduate of North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He worked at Isaly’s Dairy, and was a salesman at O’Neils and Carpet Barn in Cleveland. He met the love of his life, who happened to be the first girl he kissed, Gertrude Neuman, and the two were devoted to each other for 56 years of marriage. He was her loving caregiver for over 10 years until she passed. He was a compassionate and loving father and grandfather. He loved his family and cherished the times they spent together. He was a faithful member of Mansfield First Assembly of God Church, and Richard dearly loved his church.
He leaves behind to cherish the memories they shared are his children, Dawn (Mark) Sabelhaus, Karla (Steve) Thomas, and Rick (Anne) Muegge; grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon Hughes, Cary (Michael) Schulz, and Austin and Savannah Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life and wife, Gertrude (Neuman) Muegge; his brother, Al; and his sister, Donna.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S Diamond Street. Pastor Tom Snyder will officiate the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Richard will be laid to rest next to his wife at Mansfield Cemetery.
