Richard L. “Pete” Peterson, 77, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home. Pete was born on November 11, 1940 in Ashland, Ohio. He was the son of Merle and Ethel (Urban) Peterson.

Pete was a 1958 Ashland High School graduate where he was a great football player. Pete worked as a dairy farmer for 35 years, tending to 40 head of cattle and hogs and 130 acres of corn, oats, wheat and hay. He enjoyed being in 4-H, playing softball with friends, and his favorite past time of model railroading. Pete had a long time dream of becoming a railroad engineer. He had fond memories of a trip he took with friends in the Orrville Rail Road Club, where they took a train to Pittsburgh for the Rover Fest and watched an amazing fireworks display off a barge. Pete loved watching the trains as he worked in the fields, and he enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of the trains on hot summer nights. Pete has many fond memories of his mother’s delicious and wonderful cooking. Some of his favorite dishes she made were graham cracker pie, sugar pie, crumb cake and his mom’s famous sweet and sour pickles. Pete comes from a family of faith, this he was very proud of, and has many cherished memories of attending revivals at Chestnut Grove Brethren, the “Dunkards”. He was baptized at a young age by Rev. Powell. He was part of Paradise Hill Church for 68 years and his mother was for 93 years. Pete has strong family values, an amazing work ethic, and a great sense of humor. He put his dreams aside to help his family when his dad passed away. Pete spent his life caring for others, and was a very generous man. He was a HUGE Ohio State Buckeye’s fan, and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, the Cavs, and the Ashland Arrows Football.

Pete is survived by his cousins, Ray and Judy Peterson, June Douglas, Larry and Mary Alice Ferguson, Bev and Lynn Martin and family, Cindy and Tony Danzo and family, Linda and Wiley Brooks and family, William and Eileen Douglas and family, Betty Douglas, Ed and Robyn Peterson and family, and Rob and Heather Peterson and family; friends, John and Angela Kamenik and family, Ron and Betty Bartley, Sandy Janson, Dave Dauch, Jean Adams, Doug Culler, Lester Fulk, Carol Hissong, Layne Reuer and Richard Kamenik and family.
