Robert ‘Bob’ Lee Howard, 63, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 3, 2010 at The Ohio State University/Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. Born March 7, 1947 in Wooster, he was the son of Elsie P. Johnston and Marvin E. Howard. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1965 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving in Vietnam. Bob retired from General Motors in January 2004 after 34 years of service. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, NASCAR, dirt track racing and most of all, his grandson’s sporting events. Bob was an all around handyman and was most fond of working on his truck. He took great pride in caring for his mother and received much joy in spending time with his wonderful grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen Gallagher Howard; mother, Elsie P. Howard of Mansfield; daughters, Nicole Steve Heinberger of Mansfield and Natalie Nathaniel Irvin of Sterling, VA; three grandchildren, Lance and Kayla Heinberger and Garrett Irvin; and several cousins including a close cousin, Donnie Yohe of Fremont. His father preceded him in death.
Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. Funeral services will be in the funeral home Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
